How are Those New Year’s Resolutions Going?
February 4, 2025
In January’s newsletter, I shared my New Year’s Resolutions and plans for creating a better 2025. As you might expect, some initiatives are going well, and some are not going as well as hoped. Perhaps you know the feeling.
I’ve worked out with a trainer a few times, but not as often as hoped. I am actively working on slowing down and time blocking is a helpful tool. I’ve spent some good quality time with family and friends, but again not as much as I’d hoped. I did get out of town but for a work-related trip. The trip I was most excited about, my 30-year law school reunion, didn’t happen due to the fires in Los Angeles. But I now have a fun law school group chat.
I’d like to share a little about what I have learned by working with time-blocking my calendar. The concept is you block out your various types of tasks for the week in each workday. If they won’t all fit, you divide them by must, should and could. I am a paper and pen kind of gal, and I used to create these task lists for myself each day that were only possible if was the Bionic Woman. As I am not, it often led to frustration, since I was trying to meet unrealistic expectations and working very long hours.
Now I place time blocks in my Outlook calendar with each task and the projected time frame. I don’t have it completely accurate, as I underestimate the time routinely. But it does reduce the stress and pressure, because you either see that you will work on that task at a later time in your week or if your day isn’t going to plan, you simply move the task to another open spot in your calendar. Both let you know that you will do that task at a defined time in the future, thereby releasing worry and pressure. As an attorney, I approach most things with skepticism, and this was no different. But it is effective. If time management is one of your challenges, I invite you to try it.
A few of you shared your resolutions with me, which was fun. How are you doing with your resolutions? What are you doing to create more well-being, fulfillment and satisfaction in 2025? If any of your resolutions concern your assets, family planning or business interests, please don’t hesitate to call us. We can time block you into my calendar and help us both accomplish our resolutions.
Here’s to continuously learning and growing,
